Corrugated huts were a common feature of the steam era railway and were used as cheap ‘lock-ups’ to store a variety of railway-related clutter and not just the lamps and their associated oil. Indeed, many goods yards and stations would have several huts dotted across their respective sites. This model is based on the standard GWR 8’x6′ design, which could be seen right across the vast GWR network.
As with many railway buildings, these corrugated huts could be found in various paint schemes throughout their lives ranging from plain black to BR Western Region’s chocolate and cream scheme of the 1950s. Over time, these structures could become quite rusty, making them a perfect weathering subject.
Our model features a wealth of detail; scale corrugations, a printed window and sill, ironwork hinges and a locking bar adorned with a padlock.
To add further character to the model, the padlock could be removed with a file, and an etched product (available from Brassmasters) could be fitted.
